May 29, 2009 MEDICAL CITY RECEIVES THE COMMISSION ON CANCER OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD National Honor Recognizes Excellence in Providing Quality Care to Cancer Patients Medical City has been awarded the 2008 Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons. The Outstanding Achievement Award is given to facilities that meet the highest standard of care for cancer patients. The Commission on Cancer surveyed 478 programs across the United States in 2008 and Medical City is one of only 95 medical facilities across the United States, and one of only nine in the state of Texas to receive this prestigious honor. To achieve the outstanding Achievement Award, each facility is visited by an onsite surveyor who rates the facility's level of compliance with the following standards - cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement. "The oncology staff at Medical City brings years of experience and clinical excellence to patients in our care every day," said Mary R. Wylie, assistant vice president of oncology and medical surgical services. "Winning this award demonstrates our commitment to providing our patients with passion-filled support and the highest quality of care from the moment they walk through our doors until long after they leave us." Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. |
