Our pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) serves critically sick and injured children who require attentive, focused care, including those who are being treated in our congenital heart surgery unit. The unit provides state-of-the-art care, delivered by highly skilled, dedicated and compassionate medical professionals.
The PICU is staffed by intensivists—physicians specializing in pediatric intensive care—and critical-care registered nurses, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are supported by a team that includes clinical nurse specialists, respiratory therapists, Child Life Specialists, medical social workers, dieticians, pharmacists and rehabilitation therapists—all with pediatric training and an uncommon commitment to the well-being of young patients. Staff are required to have CPR and PALS (Pediatric Advance Life Support) training.
Further support is provided by the unit secretary, equipment techs, multitask assistants, lactation consultants, chaplain and perfusionists.
